There are opportunists and just plain "bad apples" in every group of people. These are the people who led the looting. People who are tired, hungry, thirsty, and scared do a lot of things they normally wouldn't do. Were not talking about how your feel after missing lunch and dinner, but missing several lunches and dinners. Good people get crazy under these circumstances.
We are receiving two plane loads of medical evacuees from the gulf region every day clear up in Indianapolis. The hospitals are full and centers are being set up for the less critical.

There are a lot of gay people in New Orleans that many charities won't help. Donate to www.worldrainbowfund.org/donate/makingspecificdonations.htm . All funds donated go to the cause with nothing held out for organization.

As far as I know no effort was made to provide transportation to those without. I don't know why. I question the sensibility of privatizing basic government services. I know when there have been problems here, the privitazed companies have to ask who is paying the bill, how much, and when before they can go into action. I don't know that I can blame the company operators...they have to continue, but it does make for another layer of bureaucracy to be gone through before any action can be taken.

You could say that the evacuation order was given too late. I think this is a given, but if you order earlier people would have ignored it anyway. It's hard to get worked up about an emergency that doesn't seem apparent. I think this is a big part of the total problem. How many times at warnings given only to have the danger pass without a problem? It's hard to always take things seriously. How many times have there been dire warnings of a devistating earthquake in San Francisco? Yet people continue to move in and builders continue to complain and try to evade building codes.

The current administration has cut the budget for the Corps of Engineeers and their projects by 50% while breaking the bank on stupid pork and a war that shouldn't have been. The article quoted in this link is just the touch of the iceburg. FEMA-Corps of Engineers
Now the Bush administration is going to get another opportunity to pack the Supreme Court with another evanjecial nut case. God needs to step in and save us from these biggoted ass holes.

I saw the last part of Saturday's race when I got home from work yesterday. Always like watching Carl's back flips.
A friend has talked me into going up to Auburn today to the Kruse Auburn, Cord, Dusenberg event. I will probably post pictures next week on www.autogeek.com. I was going to pass this year, but my friend talked me into it.
